Why do I still put up with this?

Dear RP "Partner",

Now. I know you really like RP and I know that's how we met... oh... 5 or 6 years ago, now. But I can barely take this anymore. Nearly every day you ask me if we can RP, and when I calmly reply that I am either busy or not in the mood, you reply with a simple "...Oh." and get all whiny and emo on occasion.

It's not that you're a bad RPer or a terrible person... But you have zero originality. All of your characters are recolours of existing characters! (Naruto, Megaman, Sonic... Just to name a few. Also it's ALWAYS the main character) The only thing you ever change is the name and appearance, and even THEN you ALWAYS recycle THAT when making a new dude.

And then there's your obsession with having me play the love interest. Every time. I'm GAY, goddammit. I like women. I do not want to RP romantic relationships that will inevitably end with some attempted cybering with you unless you are playing a girl, too. But that's not gonna happen. Ever. Because you seem to have some sort of case of mild homophobia. Also: Would it kill you to do some original plots with me sometime?

Sure. Stealing the plot from X anime or Y game that you happen to really like is all fine and dandy for you or whatever, but I have more fun playing characters that I have crafted on my own in a plot that I or myself and the participants have come up with on our own. Maybe if you give it a shot sometime I'll RP with you again, but for now I am done with you. I am tired of playing with your Naruto and Sonic clones.

Sincerely, A Girl Fed Up With Your Antics

TL;DR: SURE YOU CAN WRITE BUT YOU FAIL ORIGINALITY FOREVER

hey brps you know what's cool?

SOCKPUPPETING.

Because when no one agrees with your character ICly, it's time to break out another character to prove them all wrong! Never mind how blatantly obvious, immature, and laughable it is, rest assured that someone has rushed to your aid to defend something moronic. Even if that someone is, in fact, you.

Now I'm sure you can argue that look, it's someone else completely! Both journals link to different mun accounts (one suspiciously empty as it is). The fact that both players play the same things, write the same way, and share the same opinions is just a coincidence, then well... hell, I can buy that they're two of you idiots out there. Even though 99% of the time when I run into this kind of thing, it's sockpuppeting on a moronic level when no one gives a damn.

But let's look really, really carefully at this opinion that you feel worth defending so much, with a little bit of paraphrasing: "Why do people make fun of me for using &@#@& instead of real curse words? It's mean! This is America, I have free speech! You all are just stupid for not using your ~imagination~ because I'm too lazy to play a character who curses without writing out the swear words in a different, more acceptable way*!"

Really.

*There are several ways you can write a character who curses without writing out the curse itself - narrative indication of said cursing is a good one - and I don't think objecting to writing out swear words due to personal beliefs is some horribly awful thing. But when you are in a game, responding to a character who says fuck every other word with 'Oh @#%$@? Well, @#$@#$&#@ you!'** just makes you look stupid, especially when you're the only one doing it.

**Count the symbols, by the way. Said player has a tendency to use of million of them in for words that shouldn't be that long.

It's not a good idea to fill the rules of your site with swear words and phrasing that boils down to "don't do it because I DON'T LIKE IT". Really, it isn't. It does not make you edgy. It makes your site look amateurish. It's hard to make yourself come across as rude when writing a few simple rules for a roleplaying game, but you managed it.

And your board is canon* only. Fine. I read the rules for canons. Name, age, and occupation are pre-determined and non-negotiable. Okay, fine. Until I realise most of the canons are in their twenties. And by most I mean the only exceptions were a couple of canons in their very early thirties (both taken), one forty-five year old (taken), and two eighteen year olds. This does not leave a lot of choice for those of us who prefer to play older characters. Plus, this is out of what must have been at least fifty canons. It didn't even make sense for some of these people to be that young. Do you really think somebody would be in charge of a military vessel at twenty-five? Really? I'd be willing to accept that this was a rare occurence and this guy was some kind of prodigy, but every single vessel was run by somebody in their twenties.

I know young characters are popular, but for fuck's sake. The world is not populated and run entirely by people in their twenties.

*"Canon" here refers to a skeleton OC who may be provided with a name, face, age, and any other number of little details and the rest is left for the player to flesh out. This is not a fandom game.

So a potential member has been kind enough to go through channels to let the moddly ones know Player A broke rule 5, rather than openly state it to anyone and everyone. Granted the way Player A writes is so... messy that it took piecing together bios of 3 characters and even then directly asking Player A (to which they confirmed) that they had indeed broken this rule. So not only has someone brought it to the mod's attention, but the player themselves have admitted to this specific rule breakage. As a mod, what should you do?

A) Converse with Player A and give a chance to properly fix this issue
B) Tell the potential member you will look into it but never do since they were the first to notice
C) Say something about how it's unfair to go back and make someone change things to fit the rules after they've been accepted
D) Say how it doesn't matter that a rule was broken
I) Before E except after C... oops, broke a rule, oh well

Sorry if this may sound mean or elitist or whatever - but if you can't even get an app in on time do NOT app as my canon mates anymore. It doesn't imply great things about your activity and I'd rather be the only character of my canon than have people squatting on characters that are too essential to mine for me to get out of interacting with without looking horribly ooc. NO. >:( Go somewhere else.

And if someone else is pressuring you into picking up this pup/s for fucks sakes just say no. Don't do it if you know you're not interested.

I honestly have no clue how you manage to keep getting RP partners. You're selfish, self-centered and a total asshat. Everything always has to be about you and your characters. Heaven forbid the spotlight be shined on someone else's character. You got yourself convinced that you can do no wrong and that your way of playing a particular character is the only way. It fucking gets on my nerves. The fact that you have left a long line of RP partners behind who all think you are a tool and a massive creeper, but never bothered to tell you. Boggles my mind.

I keep seeing you dupe person after person into playing with you. Only for you to cast them aside for someone shinier. For the love of god I want to tell these people what a dick you are, but you know what? They would only think I am being bitter and trying to start wank. What the hell type of magic have you been weaving that they are stupefied by your e-cock?

PS: I hate your interpretation of your favorite character. You make him so OOC, always falling in love with another character within a week. When in canon, he has troubles expressing himself even to the people closest to him. At this rate, he's just your self insert Gary Stu and not the complex character he was in canon.

PPS: It is massively creepy that you project yourself into your character, and then pretend that you are the one having sex with your RP partner rather than the characters actually having sex. If I had known at the time you were Cybering instead of RPing. I would have bounced much sooner. You really fucking disgust me. You sicko.

Let's play a little game called How Not to Endear Yourself to Your Gaming Community! It's very simple: just answer the questions yes or no.

In the recent past, have you:

- Written a decent app, but played the character in question like an OOC caricature of itself?
- Pressured a fellow mun into having CR that they did not want (and been stopped by the mods)?
- Made it very clear that nobody's feelings but your own are important?
- Publicly insulted the mods in a different community?
- Had an epic snit fit whenever someone tried to give you concrit on a character?

If you answered yes to all these questions, the game couldn't have been happier to see you go when the mods banned you for your entitled, asocial behavior. Congratulations!

As a side note to the person who dropped because of this person's banning: calling the mods jerks in your drop post was a fantastic idea. I rather enjoyed the massive .gif spam that ensued in the comments. Stay classy!

This happened many months ago but damnit I still get angry about it sometimes.

Basically, someone agreed to do a scene where my character would attempt to capture theirs.

Now I knew it was an unfair match- my character was significantly stronger and had many advantages. So, I deliberately left several 'outs' for their character should they decide things were getting bad. But if they allowed themselves to be captured, I'd do my best to make things interesting and involve them in the plot. They wouldn't be hurt or killed or anything. Sounds like a good deal, right?

So the scene goes through, and their character ends up cornered and helpless. And then I'm like, okay I'll capture them now!

...But then I get a response like "Nah I don't want my character to be caught. I have plans for them, sorry."

Leaving me to do... WHAT, exactly? Have my character fail, after they've already got the victim cornered? Have my character act utterly OOC and let them go for NO reason? Why did you even agree to the scene if you knew you'd never let your character be caught?!

Instead of having their character try to do something IC to get out of the situation (which I wouldn't have minded) or going along with it, or ANYTHING in the actual RP, they had to resort of refusing OOC.

Oh and this happened THREE. TIMES. With different people.

If your goddamn plans are so important that other players can do nothing to change them, write fucking fanfiction! Then you don't have to worry about people 'interfering'. What a fucking waste of time.

No means no

A year or something ago, you dear fellow IM'd me through yahoo looking for RP. You wanted Cloud x Tifa RP to be specific. This I am fine with, when you intro a blue/silver haired man dressed in red claiming to be Cloud though, I had had to decline your invitation.

And now, out of the blue, you decide to IM me again. You want to make up for being fail that one time. I really didn't even remember who you were until you mentioned your "different version" of Cloud. I decline. I don't have time to RP over IM right now. I'm busy on my communities and let's face it, between FFXIII and Pokemon HeartGold my attention span is everywhere.

Just take no for an answer. Stop bugging me. No I will not say yes the more you bed for just "thirty seconds of rp a year." Begging will get you no where.

Stop getting on your kazillion yahell names to get past me blocking you.

Just...away with you. :|

Ode to Horse-boy

Horse-boy. Yes we call him Horse-boy.

I don't know how many of you have ever actually rped using AIM/AOM chat rooms, but I've been doing it for 11 years. The RP is decent if you can sit through the retardation. However, if you've been around long enough. You've run into Horse-boy.  Ask just about any Rper around and they've run into Horse-boy

Since it is unallowed I won't be mentioning his real screenname, but imagine this.

You are sitting alone waiting for someone to IM you to RP and here he comes.

Him: HI, are you still looking for some RP?
You: Yes, Yes I am.
Him: I was wondering if you'd be interested in a RP about Horses.
You: Horses? Like as NPCS?
Him: No, I was wondering if your character rides horses?
You: ...not really.
Him: Would they at least like to try to ride a horse? I want to RP a wild horse who has to be tamed. I am disabled IRL and my dream is to ride a horse. I want to RP this out.
You: I'm sorry you're disabled. But if you want to ride a horse why not play a trainer who rides horses?
Him: I really want to be the horse.

and it will usually go on from there. The thing is. He's not looking for people to have sex with his horses. He seems legitimately HARDCORE about having people riding a horse. However, that seems even creepier to me.

Now this wouldn't be SO bad if I wasn't sitting in a chatroom called "STAR WARS IM RP" Can't you at least IM me and ask if I wanna ride a tauntaun? I'd say no -- but at least you wouldn't be so off key with what I'm nicely asking for.

But here's to you, Horse-boy and your never ending quest to get someone to RIDE YOUR HORSE you IC.

Ahem

Just a quick one.

So you've written a boring, Mary Sue character who is skilled in combat, can read minds and is an excellent manipulator. They're a jerk to everyone. You start slapping PCS around and piss a lot of people off (IC) but noone does anything about it. Then you go and start slapping the GM character around. The GM very calmly smacks your arse down and (IC) shouts at the other PCs for their minor acts of retaliation. Considering you were being a pompous, swaggering arsehole I think you came off rather well from this exchange.

This would all be well and good if there'd been friendlies going on the ooc. You're not the worst Sue we've ever encountered and you're a half decent RPer. What did you do to piss everyone off (ooc) then? Well, you started spraying vitriolic PMs and IMs around saying that the GM obviously hates you and is biased against you. Then you demand (not ask, demand) that all posts that feature your character getting hurt, shouted at, glared at or even thought about in a bad way be removed or you'll flounce off.

Well flounce away mate. You won't be missed.

So you and your friend decided to invite a bunch of other people on the channel to RP with you. Great. I'm skeptical because...well, let's face. You're you. I don't even know you that well, and I know all your RPs revolve around you. But hey, you're the one starting it, so that's your prerogative. Still, it would be really nice if your events were, you know, interactive. If I wanted to watch mad scientists do cliche things, I'd watch MST3K or Attack of the Killer Tomatoes or something. I came to your gathering to RP, not be your audience.

The Saga of Angry Guy- Chapter the First

I have always harbored an interest in D&D. Something about the process of design, the concept behind creating a new persona for oneself appeals to me. With that in mind, I suppose it was only natural for me to eventually undergo the transition from player to dungeon master. I digress, though- this series is less about my experience with the game, and more about the myriad clashes endured against one of my players. We shall call him….Angry Guy.

TL;DR: A temper tantrum from a member of my 3.5e D&D group heralds worse things to come.

Her name is Lady Nefertiti Fantine Michiru De Franechka Monette (the younger sister of Lady Isabella Marie Yuta De Miwako Monette) and she is the most fearsome textbook example of Mary Sue I have ever seen in my life. )

We're going to keep this short and sweet (Frank and birthday vgifts will be back next week). You've probably seen the updates to our main menu. Don't be alarmed. You'll find everything you need, just in slightly shifted format. Just so you know, we based these changes on input from both experienced and new users who were not familiar with LiveJournal. Our goal was to reduce barriers to usability and make LiveJournal more accessible and easy to navigate. Please note that this is a work in progress. We welcome your detailed suggestions in [info]feedback. We thank you, in advance, for helping us improve your LiveJournal experience.

We've updated the global navigation menu:

Here's a quick breakdown of what you'll find where:
  • Scrapbook can now be found under Profile (thanks for your feedback, btw), along with Settings, Stats, and Edit Profile.
  • You'll find all the tools you need to post and update entries under Journal, which includes posting and editing entries, managing comments and tags, and customizing your journal's style.
  • Friends contains all of your friend settings, from filtering your Friends page to adding, removing, and finding new and existing friends on LiveJournal.
  • Under Communities, you'll find links to manage your communities, accept community invites, and create new communities.
  • Explore includes search features, RSS feeds, Question of the Day, and FRNK radio.
  • Under Shop, you'll find links to upgrade or give a paid account, buy virtual gifts, purchase LiveJournal merchandise (like T-shirts), and view your payment history.

LiveJournal Mobile update:

We've enhanced LiveJournal's mobile site to improve usability and load times. We've made more of LiveJournal's features accessible via mobile, including posting comments, uploading photos, reading and commenting on friends' posts, finding and messaging friends, and more. We look forward to reviewing your feedback and recommendations for future improvements.

Other important changes:

  • You can lock comments to prevent further commenting on a post, while leaving existing comments visible.
  • We replaced the "Tell a friend" link with a new "Share This" widget that lets you share LiveJournal posts on other social media sites, including Facebook, Digg, Twitter, etc.
  • We changed some of the icons on entries (you can hover over the icons to view descriptions).
  • You'll see a Tag count on your Tag management page.
  • You'll now see the 10 most recent vgifts on your profile page. To remove vgifts, left-click on the vgift and choose whether you want to remove the vgift from your profile or delete it entirely.
  • We've added options to help you control receipt of vgifts, which you'll find in My Stuff under Edit Profile. You can now enable vgifts from friends or everyone and disable anonymous vgifts.

We've got your fix:

  • UPDATE: Rolling several updates into one listing here -- 1) Scrapbook should be back and working again. 2) The problem with the Update Journal page in IE6 and IE7 should be fixed now. 3) The problem with the userpic add-on package pricing has been fixed and refunds issued to anyone who was overcharged while the erroneous prices were in place.
  • Non-conforming images will now be automatically resized for custom mood themes.
  • Line breaks no longer count as two characters against your entry's character limit.
  • We fixed a bug on the Manage Tags page so you can clear all tags and add new tags.
  • We corrected the UI for the update.bml page so it displays properly in IE8.
Thanks again for joining us. Frank and company will be back next week!

I've recently joined a com and in doing so realized something: none of the characters introduce themselves. Mine have had to bend over backwards to get names out of the other characters. Yes, for some it's in character not to immediately give out their name. But when someone offers you his hand and says "Hey, I'm Joe," most people will take that hand and say something like "Hey, Joe, I'm Steve. Nice to meet you." But instead of that kind of conversation, I'm getting a lot of this (wherein Joe is my character and Steve belongs to someone else):
"Hey, I'm Joe," Joe said.
"Hey, Joe. Nice to meet you," Steve said.
"Do you have a nick name or anything?" Joe asked.
"Nope," Steve said.
"What should I call you then?" Joe asked.
"Anything you want," Steve replied.
Er. Not helpful, guys. And that example isn't too exaggerated, either. The whole scenario just seems really strange to me.

SPECIFIC YOU,

NO LOVE, EVER,

~The "Nice" Gmod

Melted white chocolate gracefully fall down over her dainty head and past her shoulders. The glorious ribbons of a pearly shade are made from silk-spun fabric for only angels to wear. Such beautiful consistency playfully, yet courteously, invites affection and rekindles the youth in one to run their fingers through it. The greedy desire to bury oneself into her elegant locks is only magnified when she twirls these elegant feathers around her slender finger. The velvety curtain glistens in a shade of molten moonlight as the strands slither straight down until the small of her back.  The most interesting quality of this veil is its ability to shimmer into swirls of silver, hued with aquamarine paint, sparkling sapphire liquids, and glistening amethyst cascade over her shoulders all at once.  At the slight turn of her head, silk-spun locks are sent curling to the rhythm of the air. The captivating sight of the mist cast about her soft cheeks changing from pearls to jewels is one that coaxes men and women to do her bidding. The cascade of blue stars is rarely seen twisted into some absurd hairstyle. It flows most naturally down the elegant curve of her spine, untouched.

I had to share this BRPS.

rom the lips (well, keyboard) of a girl in a crossover RP I'm part of. )The reason for her raeg? I politely corrected a typo in her post.
